An Interdisciplinary Approach to Managing Dysphagia

Treating dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) is not always completely effective by only relying on treatment sessions with a speech-language pathologist (SLP). When individuals are not in the presence of an SLP, their dysphagia still needs to be managed by the interdisciplinary team, family and friends, and the individual themselves. This course aims to present best practices that everyone involved with the individual can use to incorporate strategies and interventions to reinforce safe swallowing in order to ensure the best possible outcomes. The role of each member as they relate to the individual will be reviewed to ensure consistent interventions.

The goal of this course is to provide SLPs and nursing personnel in post-acute care settings with education and best practices to maximize carryover of dysphagia management.
