Cancer Disparities in the Latino Population

Latinos are the largest, most rapid-growing, and youngest minority group in the U.S. (Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation [ASPE] Office of Health Policy, 2021). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cancer is the leading cause of death in Latino patients (CDC, 2022a, 2022b). This course examines the impact of cancer on Latino people in the U.S. Many Latinos face barriers to receiving healthcare. Patients and healthcare professionals can be empowered to work together to eliminate healthcare barriers. Cultural proficiency is important in providing high-quality healthcare and preventive services to different populations.

The goal of this course is to update nursing professionals with an overview of the impact of cancer on the Latino population.
