Critical Care Series: Renal Failure

Worldwide, renal failure affects about 13.4% of people per year (Fan et al., 2021). Renal failure is the result of a cascade of events that can occur during an acute phase or gradually lead to chronic renal failure (Bindroo et al., 2021). Acute renal failure (ARF), also known as acute kidney injury (AKI), accounts for about 1% of hospital admissions, and about 37% of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) develop renal failure (Goyal et al., 2021). That is why it is important for nurses to understand the etiology of renal failure and how to manage patients with AKI.

The goal of this course is to inform nursing professionals in acute care about the common causes of acute renal failure and how to manage kidney health.
