Dementia Care: Ethical Considerations

Families and people with dementia are required to make many decisions regarding care throughout the disease process. These decisions include not only end-of-life issues, but decisions regarding treatment, safety, and autonomy. Many times, ethical considerations may appear to contradict each other. For example, what is safe vs. what the individual desires. This course covers the basics of ethical caregiving and the basic principles of ethics. It also examines the ethical goals of caring for individuals with dementia to help caregivers see both the dignity of the person and the indignity of the disease.
