This course offers an overview of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and PREA National Standards, definitions of sexual abuse and sexual harassment, and the consequences you could incur from failing to follow the PREA-related policies and procedures set forth by your agency.
People held in correctional facilities have always had the right to be protected from sexual abuse while confined. Employees, contractors, and volunteers in correctional or community correctional facilities have always had the ethical responsibility to prevent, detect, and respond to sexual abuse and sexual harassment of people in custody.
The passage of the PREA and the implementation of the PREA National Standards has allowed correctional facilities to standardize definitions and processes and establish a zero-tolerance policy for instances of sexual abuse and sexual harassment in their facilities.
The goal of this course is to give correctional officers working in adult correctional facilities an overview of the PREA and the PREA National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape.
