Physical therapists working across the continuum of care and populations should have the knowledge and skills to screen for, evaluate and treat patients with concussions, or the ability to recognize a concussion and refer to the appropriate provider. From a young adult who experienced a car accident to an older adult who experienced a fall, your ability to recognize the signs and symptoms of concussion and red flags for referral are critical for best outcomes for your patients. This podcast guides physical therapy professionals through the process of screening, evaluation, and treatment of concussion using the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for Physical Therapy Evaluation and Treatment after Concussion/mTBI as a tool for organizing the process. We will discuss identification, screening, evaluation, and treatment of the four domains relevant to physical therapy: cervical musculoskeletal impairments, vestibulo-oculomotor impairments, autonomic dysfunction and exertion intolerance, and motor function impairments.
