Understanding Wandering and Elopement Self-Paced

Many residents living with some form of dementia may wander or even attempt to leave a nursing facility, assisted living facility (ALF), or other type of post-acute care setting. These behaviors may be dangerous because residents who are cognitively impaired may be unable to protect themselves. This course will explain the difference between wandering and elopement and the stages of Alzheimer’s dementia. Finally, this course will present facility strategies to minimize wandering and elopement. The goal of this course is to provide non-licensed direct care staff in post-acute care settings with knowledge related to wandering and elopement.
